What is Sydney Mail?
Sydney Mail is the official University student email account and all official correspondence from the University is sent to your Sydney Mail address. Sydney Mail was launched in 2009 and all University students have been allocated a Sydney Mail account.
What is included in my Sydney Mail account?
Each University email account includes:
- 10GB of mail quota that supports attachments up to 20MB in size,
- a Windows Live ID Profile so you can share your latest updates and key information to family, friends, or the whole world,
- online calendaring so you can organize activities and share your schedule with others,
- the ability to manage contact lists online, and
- many more feature rich email account options!
What is my Sydney Mail address?
Your Sydney Mail email account comes in the format: your UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au.
For example if your UniKey is jsmi0000, your Sydney Mail email address would be: jsmi0000@uni.sydney.edu.au
Do I need to check my Sydney Mail account?
Yes, you should check your Sydney Mail account on a regular basis or ensure you forward your mail to an email account you check regularly.
It is a condition of your enrolment that you read all University correspondence. Failure to read and respond where necessary could mean that you fail to correctly maintain your enrolment.
I was enrolled at the University before my Sydney Mail account was created – what happened to my original account?
Students who were enrolled at the University before 2009 would have been assigned a Central mail email account. Central mail is no longer the official University student email and is now classified as a 'legacy' system, which means it is no longer supported for student use.
Students who were assigned a Central email account were automatically assigned a new Sydney Mail account. To activate the redirection of your email please contact the ICT Helpdesk on
9351 6000. Once your emails have been redirected, you should only use your new Sydney mail account.
What is SkyDrive?
SkyDrive is an online service where you can create, upload and share files and access these from a web browser. The service is provided by Microsoft and is linked to your Sydney Mail email account. SkyDrive provides:
- Heaps of storage space – Your SkyDrive account includes 7GB worth of space, which allows you to store, share and edit thousands of files!
- Convenience – No matter where you are – on campus, at home, on the move or on the train – you have access to the documents stored in your SkyDrive as long as you have an internet connection. You can even download the SkyDrive app for your smart phone to view your files while you're on the move.
- Control – Need to work on a group assignment but are finding it impossible to get everyone together? You can choose to share specific files or folders with your fellow students online. You can modify file permissions so that you can edit and work on your assignments without having to be in the same room.
- Publishing power - Got something amazing you want to share? Easy, share links directly to your folders, files and photos from your SkyDrive to your blog or webpage.
