Connect to the UniSydney wireless network using Mac OS X 10.6.8

If you are running other versions, your device should automatically configure with the correct settings to connect to the UniSydney wireless network.

If you are running Mac OS X 10.6.8 you may need to manually configure the UniSydney wireless network.

Step 1: Manually configure the UniSydney network

  1. Click on the Apple menu
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Network
  4. Select AirPort (located in the left menu)
  5. Make sure AirPort is on (the button will read “Turn AirPort Off” when AirPort is on)
  6. Select the Ask to join new networks check box.
  7. Click Advanced
  8. Click the 802.1x tab
  9. Click on the + button
  10. Select Add User Profile
  11. Enter the following details:
    User profiles: UniSydney
    User Name: your UniKey
    Password: your UniKey password
    Authentication: PEAP (make sure TTLS is not selected)
    Wireless Network: UniSydney
    Security Type: WPA2 Enterprise
  12. Now click the AirPort tab
  13. Click on the + button underneath Preferred Networks
  14. Enter the following in the Enter the name of your network dialogue box:
    Network Name: UniSydney
    Security: WPA2 Enterprise
    User Name: your UniKey
    Password: your UniKey password
    802.1X: Automatic
  15. Click Add
  16. UniSydney should now display in the Preferred Networks window. Click and drag it so it is the first entry in your list of Preferred Networks.
  17. Select the Remember any network this computer has joined check box.
  18. Click OK

Step 2: Connect to the UniSydney network

To connect to the UniSydney network:

  1. Click on the Apple menu
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Network
  4. Select UniSydney (located in the left menu)
  5. You may receive a prompt to install and accept a security certificate. Ensure the certificate name is auth.wireless.sydney.edu.au and click Continue.
    Note: You may have to disconnect and reconnect to the UniSydney network to see this prompt.
  6. When prompted, type your UniKey and password
  7. Click OK

You should now be connected to the University wireless network, giving you access to the internet and the University intranet.
