22 June 2007 Australia and India in the Asia-Pacific Region International Forum
As part of its International Triennium 2006-2009, the University’s first International Forum was launched in September 2006. The International Forum series brings together leaders and thinkers from around the world to present their views on strategic international issues and the way in which these issues may impact on Australia and the globe.
The International Forum on 22 June 2007 focused on the vital interests of Australia and India in the Asia-Pacific Region. Prominent leaders from government, diplomacy, business and sports spoke about the opportunities for engagement in international trade, research, sports, mining and agriculture, as well as the continuing increase in the number of students from India coming to Australia for higher education.
We were honoured to have the following speakers and expert panel members on this Forum:
- Mr Michael L'Estrange AO, Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade;
- His Excellency Mr Prabhat P Shukla, The High Commissioner for India in Australia;
- Mr Neville Roach AO, Chairman Emeritus, Australia India Business Council; and
- Mr Leighton Wood, Chief Executive Officer, Sport Knowledge Australia.
The Forum was held in the Great Hall, Main Quadrangle building.
