Preferential Partnerships


Preferential partnerships involve long term engagement across multiple disciplines with selected overseas partners. Preferential Partnership agreements provide joint funding committed by the University of Sydney and the partner institution to support research collaborations and academic mobility.

Currently, we have partnerships with:

  1. The University of Geneva - applications for 2014 are now closed.
  2. São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP) - applications close on 28 July 2014.

The University of Geneva

The Preferential partnership agreement with the University of Geneva provides joint funding to researchers from the University of Sydney and the University of Geneva for three projects annually. The aim is to foster collaborative projects with researchers from the University of Geneva in any discipline.

Aims

The University of Sydney Preferential Partnership agreement provides funding to University of Sydney academics to support collaborative projects with researchers from the University of Geneva. The aim is to build on our existing partnership with Geneva. Applicants are encouraged to submit funding applications for innovative and sustainable programs built around collaborative research in any discipline.

Funding

Preferential Partnership grants will be allocated in one instalment, available from mid-January of the year following and should be spent within 2 years of allocation. Each application will receive the equivalent of AUD10,000 from each institution for a total of AUD20,000.

Eligibility

Applications are welcome from post-doctoral fellows, academic and research staff at the University of Sydney in all disciplines. Chief Investigators on a project must hold a salaried appointment with the University of Sydney. University of Geneva researchers will apply directly with their home institution.

Application process

1. Read the Preferential Partnership Fund guidelines (DOC).

2. Download the application form (DOC).

3. Obtain a letter of support from the Head of Department or Faculty from the partner institution (University of Sydney or University of Geneva) supporting your proposed activities.

4. Obtain a letter of support from any additional collaborting partner institutions outlining any joint activities to date.

5. Submit the PP application form via email to ip.ipdf@sydney.edu.au.

São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP)

The Preferential Partnership agreement with FAPESP (São Paulo State Research Agency) provides joint funding to researchers from the University of Sydney and higher education institutions within the State of São Paulo, Brazil, for up to 5 projects annually. The aim is to foster collaborative projects with researchers in any discipline.

Applications will close at 5.00pm (AEST) on Monday 28 July 2014. Late and incomplete applications will not be accepted.

The aim is to build on our existing partnership with higher education institutions in the State of São Paulo. Applicants are encouraged to submit funding applications for innovative and sustainable programs built around collaborative research in any discipline.

Preferential Partnership grants will be allocated in one instalment and should be spent within 2 years of allocation. Each application will receive the equivalent of AUD10,000  from each institution for a total of AUD20,000.

Brazilian researchers will apply directly to FAPESP according to the FAPESP guidelines announced in the joint call for applications.
