International House 45th Anniversary

International House is turning 45! To celebrate we are holding a weekend of events on 31st March/1st April 2012. All Alumni and their guests are invited to take part in the celebrations at International House and in the local area.

If you have not yet received an invitation, either by mail or email, it is because we don't have your up to date addresses, so please email with your current email and physical address so you can be a part of this great event!

Calendarfest 2012

Calendarfest is a SUIHAA initiative to connect alumni with residents of the House through a simple gift - the giving of a calendar to new residents at the start of each academic year. We're looking for alumni willing to kindly donate a 2012 calendar from their home country or region to Calendarfest to be given out as part of this initiative.

We encourage alumni to include a short message introducing yourself to the new resident and to leave an email address by which they can contact you. In this way, donating a calendar can help open up a connection between old and new residents, inspiring future generations to continue this long-held IH tradition.

Past Events

  • The Sydney Reunion (12 March 2011): The SUIHAA event took place at Elizabeth’s Boutique Café on Glebe Point Road. More than 50 Alumni from International House attended the event with IH alumni from every decade present on the afternoon.
  • AGM (11 September 2010): The SUIHAA AGM was hold on in the Wool Room at International House. A new SUIHAA committee has been elected.
  • Walter Westman Lecture on Science, Humanity and the Environment (23 September 2010): Professor Ian Hickie AM, the Executive Director of Brain & Mind Research Institute, the University of Sydney, spoke on Your Mind and Its Potential to create a better world.
  • The Foundation Day Address (6 August 2010): an address given by Michael Hwang, the first IHMA Chairperson (1967), a law graduate from Oxford and he is a Senior Counsel, Barrister and Arbitrator in Singapore. The address was followed by a formal dinner.
  • Michael Hwang's (’67) afternoon tea (01 August 2010): Michael, the inaugural Chairman of the IHMA, invited all his fellow 1967 alumni to afternoon tea in the Wool Room, International House.
  • International House Worldwide Alumni Reunion in Philadelphia (25 to 27 June 2010): To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the International House Worlwide movement IH Sydney Alumni were invited to a reunion of all International House alumni from around the world in Philadelphia.
  • AMPlify! launch meeting (02 May 2010): AMPlify! had it’s inaugural Meet n’ Greet event in the Coffee Room at International House.
  • Special General Meeting (27 April 2010): there was a Special General Meeting of SUIHAA at International House to vote on the Constitutional amendments.
  • Calendarfest 2010 (February 2010): according to tradition SUIHAA hold the annual Calendarfest for IH residents.
  • SUIHAA Annual General Meeting (29 November 2009): new SUIHAA committee was elected.
  • I-Night (9 October 2009): an evening of entertainment organised by International House Members Association (IHMA) and enjoyed by residents and alumni.
  • Spring Back to Sydney (19 September 2009): an event organised by the Alumni Office to attract University alumni back to the University for a series of entertaining events and lectures.
  • Walter Westman Lecture (11 September 2009): John Connor, CEO of the Climate Institute of Australia, talked about "Targets, Technologies and the Till: How Australian and International Efforts are shaping up on the crucial elements of an effective global climate agreement".   • The Bo Trivia Night (04 September 2009): a trivia night organised by the Bo group for fundraising purpose.
