Fieldwork

Fieldwork entitlements are dependant on the type of degree you are enrolled in and the type of scholarship you have been awarded. Please read the following carefully or contact the to clarify your entitlements.

Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) Students

Fieldwork/ Fieldtrips

Unfortunately AusAID will not fund any fieldtrips or fieldwork associated with coursework units. They do not fund any Australian fieldwork or fieldtrips.

Overseas Fieldwork

To be eligible for overseas fieldwork funding you must have confirmation in your Letter of Offer from AusAID that you are entitled to a fieldwork trip. You must be enrolled in a degree that is 50% research to be eligible for fieldwork


If your scholarship does include a fieldwork trip please contact the at least four months prior to the proposed overseas fieldwork to obtain a Fieldwork Application Form. This form will be completed by both you and your supervisor and then returned to the AusAID Unit for assessment. You will be advised in writing of the result of the assessment.

AusAID assistance is limited to a return airfare and maintenance of stipend during the fieldwork period.

Important note: all Fieldwork Travel must be booked via the AusAID Unit in the International Student Office. Tickets booked independently will not be funded by AusAID.

If you are conducting fieldwork or other research outside Australia for more than one semester (or 6 months) it is DIAC policy that all dependants depart Australia at the same time. Dependants of students conducting fieldwork or other research outside Australia for less than one semester (or 6 months) may be permitted to remain in Australia. Please contact DIAC for further information regarding these requirements www.immi.gov.au

Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Students

Contact the to obtain an Application Form to access SEA for this purpose.. This should be completed by both you and your supervisor and returned to the AusAID Officer for assessment. You will be advised in writing of the result of this assessment.

Please note that If you are conducting fieldwork or other research outside Australia for more than one semester (or 6 months) it is DIAC policy that all dependants depart Australia at the same time.
