Postgraduate study

IPOS brings together teaching expertise from the School of Physics, the School of Electrical and Information Engineering and the Electron Microscope Unit to provide a comprehensive suite of postgraduate coursework and research-only programs for both local and international students. Our aim is to provide postgraduate pathways for students that provide an exciting range of career options:

  • Our Graduate Diploma in Photonics and Optical Science(one year full time, up to two years part time) is aimed at science and engineering graduates seeking professional specialist employment in the ICT industry.
  • The Masters of Photonics and Optical Science (18 months full time, three years part time) combines the coursework requirements for the Diploma degree with a one semester research project under the supervision of an IPOS Faculty member. The Masters degree positions graduates for advanced R&D role in industry, and also serves as a pathway for graduates wishing to enter the PhD program.
  • The PhD program is a research-only degree in which students work under the supervision of academic staff on a project with significant scope for original research and ample opportunity to publish results in refereed journals and present at conferences. PhD graduates are well-equipped for high level research careers in industry or local and overseas research institutes or Universities.

Join IPOS and see the world! We have exchange agreements with European and US Universities that enable you to conduct part of your research project abroad. As a graduate student in IPOS, you will also have the opportunity to mix with student interns and exchange students who have come to IPOS to be part of our program.

Student Graduation
