History
The Institute of Wildlife Research was launched in 1990 to harness the diverse skills of a group of biologists
at the University of Sydney. This group shared a common vision of using their talents for the conservation
of wildlife and for education of the community. Our goal was then, as it is today, to foster excellence in
research as a tool for effective management of wildlife. The Institute currently has 19 members, and is guided
by a 3-person executive comprising the Director, Professor Chris Dickman, Deputy Director, Associate Professor
Peter McGee, and Executive Chair, Emeritus Professor Ian Hume.
