Professor Stephen Garton was appointed as the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney in August 2009.

At the University of Sydney Professor Garton has been head of the Department of History (1996–98), an associate dean and pro dean in the Faculty of Arts (1991–95, 1999) and a member of the Academic Board for nearly 15 years. He was appointed Professor of History in 2000 and Challis Professor in 2004. From 2001 to 2009 Professor Garton was dean of the Faculty of Arts.


Professor Tyrone Carlin

Professor Tyrone Carlin

Professor Tyrone Carlin is Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education Operations). He has held a variety of prior senior appointments including Acting Dean of the University of Sydney Business School, Dean of Law at Macquarie University and Director of Academic Programs at Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

Professor Carlin’s research interests span financial reporting and corporate governance. He has been engaged as a consultant by corporate, professional services and Government organisations in Australia and internationally.

Professor Carlin is a Director of Teachers Mutual Bank, CPA Australia and Chair of Sydney Talent.

Professor Archie Johnston

Professor Archie Johnston was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies in 2009. He is Chair of the Education Forum of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.

His previous roles include dean of Engineering and pro-vice-chancellor (research) at the University of Technology, Sydney. He also held the position of dean at the University of South Australia.

Professor Johnston has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Hons) and a PhD, both from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
