ACCEL is the leading centre for climate and environmental law teaching and research in Australia, and is one of the leading centres in the world.

The Centre is committed to scholarly research, teaching, and public education and engagement. Its mission is to encourage, promote and support innovative and important scholarship, including teaching, research, consultancy and public interest advocacy, in all areas of climate and environmental law and policy.

These objectives are pursued within the University of Sydney, with other related Centres and institutions in Australia and overseas, with the legal profession, and with the wider community.

Each year, ACCEL hosts an array of eminent international scholars who teach, present seminar/conference papers and undertake research in the area of climate and environmental law. The Centre also conducts and sponsors international and domestic conferences, seminars, workshops, lectures and other similar activities.

Members of the Centre have established wide networks of relationships with researchers around the world, including within Columbia Law School, Berkeley Law School, Tilburg Law School, Maastricht Law School, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the National University of Singapore.

ACCEL attracts and supervises to completion high quality postgraduate students, and develops innovative and cutting-edge units of study in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the areas of climate and environmental law.
