Study resources & support
All new students commence on the first day of the official semester (March/July). See research periods. Enrolment must be completed at least three weeks prior to the candidature start date. International students will also be enrolling in accordance with the conditions outlined in their admission and/or scholarship offer letter. If your enrolment is not completed by the candidature start date, your offer will lapse. In which case, you must submit a new admission application.
Accepting your offer
Before you are able to enrol, you must accept your offer by going to the [My Applications] tab in Sydney Student with your username and password to use the offer acceptance facility.
Completing your enrolment
After accepting your offer, please select your compulsory research support units and complete your enrolment.
If you are unable to commence your research by the specified semester start date, you may apply for permission to defer the commencement of your research until the following semester start date. A maximum one year of deferral may be considered. Supporting letters from your supervisory team must be supplied with your application.

Students who are resuming their candidature after a period of approved suspension will need to submit a request to recommence” at "My Studies" tab in the Sydney Student portal at My Uni using their UniKey. After submitting your recommencement request, you will be notified by Sydney Student when to go into your "enrolment" task to complete your enrolment online. Please select your compulsory research support units and complete your enrolment.
You are a continuing student if you have been successfully enrolled from one year to another. You may vary your enrolment in the compulsory Legal Research Support Units in accordance with the relevant census dates. All continuing students will be invited to re-enrol again for the next calendar year (four research periods) in mid-November. Student visa students and scholarship holders must complete their course on a full-time basis.
In accordance with the University of Sydney (Higher Degree by Research) Rule 2011, if a student does not enrol by the last census date for enrolment in each research period of the degree, and the student has not sought approval to discontinue or suspend enrolment, the student’s candidature lapses. If a student’s candidature in a degree lapses, then, despite any contrary provision in this Rule, the procedures for the student to apply for readmission to the degree are to be as the Associate Dean determines. Following acceptance of your offer, you will need to select your compulsory research support units and complete your enrolment at My Uni. You are encouraged to access the University enrolment support website prior to completing your enrolment. The website will provide helpful information which will take you through the enrolment process step by step. Enrolment must be completed at least three weeks prior to the candidature start date. Student visa students and scholarship holders must complete their course on a full-time basis.
Once you have become formally enrolled, you will be invited to re-enrol again for the following calendar year. See continuing students
