Call for abstracts and event information

Invitation to Present
The conference will provide a forum for the discussion of specific legal research projects, as well as an opportunity to explore broader issues around research method, theory, critique and the culture of law.
The conference will take place over two days at the New Law School Building, University of Sydney. Day One will include the key note address and concurrent presentation sessions. Day Two will run as a half day and involve a roundtable discussion session about the PhD experience facilitated by relevant academics. Concurrent roundtable discussions of research, method, theory and critique will also take place on Day Two.

Acceptance of Abstracts
Successful applicants will be notified by Monday 12 September 2011.
Accepted presenters are required to submit a conference paper (maximum word length 4000 words) by Thursday 13 October 2011. The conference paper will be provided to the academic discussant of the relevant session in order to facilitate active engagement with the presentation and encourage useful discussion and feedback. A $500 paper prize will be awarded to the best written paper.
Keynote Speaker
The keynote speaker at the conference will be Professor Gerry Simpson. Professor Simpson holds the Kenneth Bailey Chair of Law at Melbourne Law School, the University of Melbourne, where he is Director of the Asia Pacific Centre for Military Law, and Convenor of The Global Justice Studio. He is also a Visiting Professor of Public International Law at the London School of Economics, where he held a Chair until 2009, and is currently an AFP/Open Society Fellow (based in Tbilisi, Georgia). He is the author of Great Powers and Outlaw States (Cambridge, 2004) and Law, War and Crime: War Crimes Trials and the Reinvention of International Law (Polity 2007).
