Objectives

• Examine the application of psychological knowledge and theories to all aspects of the criminal and civil justice systems.
• Draw upon psychological evidence to explain and understand some of the people and processes involved in the legal system.

Content

Lie detection; profiling; interviewing; jury deliberation; eyewitness memory; criminal offenders; victims of crime; and police officers.

Assessment

• Class Participation (10%)
• 1 x 3,500-4,000 Word Essay (40%)
• 1 x Two Hour Exam (50%)

Units of study that are part of Sydney Law School’s Postgraduate Program meet the necessary Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) of the Law Society of New South Wales and the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of the New South Wales Bar Association. You may complete this unit of study by enrolling on a non-degree basis or on an audit basis only with no assessment via Single Unit Enrolment.
