LAWS6014 - Advanced Financing Techniques

Objectives

  • Gain an understanding of the commonly used commercial structures and techniques for large financings.
  • Examine the use of these structures and techniques in a range of commercial settings, such as takeovers and public/private infrastructures, and in the international context.
  • This is an advanced unit, which assumes a good general knowledge of Australian corporate law and corporate finance.

Content

Loan syndication; domestic and off-shore capital markets; lending to a trust; takeover finance; derivatives; public/private infrastructure finance; project finance; listed property trusts; documentation in advanced financing transactions.

This unit is taught by a team of legal experts with extensive experience in financing techniques.

Assessment

  • 2 x Class Presentations (20% each)
  • 1 x Two-Hour Exam (60%)

Assumed Knowledge

LAWS6038 - Debt Financing or LAWS6046 - Equity Financing or law degree with good background in Australian corporate law.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

You can credit this unit towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Units of study that are part of Sydney Law School’s Postgraduate Program meet the necessary Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) of the Law Society of New South Wales and the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of the New South Wales Bar Association. You may complete this unit of study by enrolling on a non-degree basis or on an audit basis only with no assessment via Single Unit Study.
