Tuesday 10 April 2007

12 noon Registration and Lunch.  Sutherland Room and adjacent foyer and terrace, Holme Building.
1.00pm - 3.00pm National Representatives Meeting. Reading Room.
1.30pm - 3.00pm Guided Tour of the University.

Meet at 1.15pm on the lawn in front of the Holme Building.

Expert guides will lead an exploration of the Quadrangle grounds and gargoyles, the Great Hall, MacLaurin Hall, and Sydney University Museums. Discover the architectural, historical and cultural significance of Sydney’s oldest university, and then during a quiet moment in the competition, you’ll be able to guide your hard-working national representatives around the campus on rejuvenating walks (rejuvenating for competitors – the reps will have recovered).

3.15pm - 5pm  "The Listening Lawyer". MacCallum Room

A forum/masterclass on the centrality of listening while interviewing. This is an interactive seminar for students participating in the International Client Counseling Competition, and for others involved in the competition, or with an interest in the area, who wish to attend.

Several people who have taught interviewing and listening skills will share their expertise through practical exercises and posing questions such as: I am interviewing a client. Who am I?
What type of listening is most effective for each of my identities?
What are the most effective interviewing strategies?
Topics likely to arise include: using open and closed questions; defining active listening; recognising the limits of expertise and control.

5.00pm - 7pm  Welcome Reception. Withdrawing Room.

A warm welcome from the University, from the ICCC Committee, and team introductions. Light food and refreshments, soothing music and smart casual dress will enhance the atmosphere as you mingle with participants and guests.

Buses will take you from the University to hotels or nearby drop-off points at the conclusion of the reception. We will gather additional accommodation details during registration.

A panel of this morning’s judges and clients will offer constructive comment on Round One. Neither lunch nor this productive and educational session will cause indigestion.

The cruise lasts until about 6.20pm, paddling under the Harbour Bridge and around by the Opera House. Bring your camera and a warm top in case of cool sea breezes.

On disembarking, find your land legs and a whole range of restaurants along the wharf. An early dinner and restful night is recommended for the important days ahead

You won’t want to miss a moment. Glimpses of the stunning murals by Vergil JJ Lo Schiavo will whet your appetite for dinner and dancing to the Bunyip Bush Band, whose specialty is hearty Australian music.

There will be some short speeches, a slightly longer awards ceremony, but plenty of time to cement lasting friendships. It is part of the ICCC tradition that teams exchange small, inexpensive mementos or souvenirs.

11pm  When we bid farewell to the 2007 competition, buses will return you to city locations.
