Stage 3 of the Fisher Refurbishment project is due to commence on the 27th May, 2013 and will continue until the end of 2013. It is the final stage of the work to be undertaken to improve library facilities for our students and staff. There will be some closures and relocation of the collections during this period to enable all Levels of Fisher South to be completed. We’ll keep you up to date via the Library News and the Fisher Upgrade site.
Work will initially be undertaken on Levels 1, 5 and 9 of Fisher South. Immediate changes to enable the work to proceed include:
The Fisher Library Newspaper Area on Level 1 Fisher South will be closed from Wednesday 22nd May 2013 until the end of December 2013.
From that data current newspapers and Magazines will be relocated to the 2 hour collection (at the beginning of the sequence) on Level 3 Fisher North.
The access to the Herbert Smith Freehills Library will be unavailable from Monday 27th May, 2013 until further notice. We hope to reopen this access as soon as possible after essential work is completed on Level 1 Fisher South.
Please continue to return your books near the information desk until the new returns chutes open near the foyer in late November.
Noisy hand dryers will be removed from toilets on levels 3 and 4 soon and taps are being upgraded.
Current works Fisher South and Link Level 4
Level 4 Fisher South has opened and collections from 000 – 320 can be found on this floor.
The refurbished, brightly coloured Sound Booths will be accessible soon. Digital multimedia equipment for watching DVDs and listening to music will be available in these bookable rooms.
Level 3 South will open near the end of October. This area contains computers, individual and group study spaces, home theatres, a kitchen, parent room, community noticeboard, and the assistive technology lab.
Lifts throughout Fisher South will open in November – the current lifts will shed their black overcoats and be restored to their original look shortly.
Low use duplicates will be offered to the University community. The items are currently being sorted and checked in Darlington Storage. Academic staff will be invited to view the material first.
Work has started in the Herbert Smith Freehills Law Library to move some of the low use material to storage in consultation with academic staff. The remainder of the material in the Dewey range 340 to 349 has been transferred from Fisher to Law.
