Loans and Borrowing
Loan periods
Reference and loseleaf services are not for loan.
Standard loan conditions are:

| Check your loan status in MyLoans every day to see if your loan has been recalled. The new due date will be updated. |

How to borrow
You must have your card with you to borrow.
1. Search the Catalogue to find the Library, call number and availability of an item.
- Reference items are not available for loan
- Check the shelves and sorting areas for items that are Available or RECENTLY RET'D (recently returned)
- Request items that are ON LOAN, IN TRANSIT, at another Campus, or in Storage *
- Learn more about a Catalogue status, location or call number at Catalogue Help
2. Ask library staff for help if you cannot find an item in the catalogue
3. Use your Student ID Card, Staff ID Card or Library Borrowers Card to borrow at a loans desk, or an Express Borrowing machine.
* This Request service may not be available to all borrowers. Please see Library Cards for more information.
Renewals
Most loans can be renewed an unlimited number of times via MyLoans.
You cannot use MyLoans to renew an item if:
- the item has been recalled
- it is a 2 Hour Collection item
- it is a journal
- your card is blocked
- Items obtained through Document Delivery : For renewals please contact your home library
To renew by email or telephone, please contact the Library where you borrowed the item. Fisher Library does not accept telephone renewals.
Returns
Return items to the loans desk of any University of Sydney library (with the exception of the Schaeffer Fine Arts Library).
2 Hour Collection items and journals must be returned to the library from which they were borrowed.
The following libraries have 24 hour return facilities:
- Badham library
- Camden library
- SciTech library
- Fisher library
- Health Science library
- Medical library
Returning items via mail
All Library clients can return books by registered mail or express post to the University Library. The Library will use the date the package was received as the return date.
Please address packages to the Returns section of the appropriate Library as listed on the Library’s webpage.
Disclaimer: the library will not take responsibility for items lost in the mail.
Lost and damaged loans
If you lose an item you have borrowed, please report it to the Library as soon as possible. Damaged items should be reported to the Library when they are returned.

Notices
Notices about loans, recalls, requests and fines are sent to your University email address, or an email address you provided when applying for a card.

| Fines notice | when we inform you of new fines |
| Statement of charges | monthly, listing any unpaid library fines and charges |
You are responsible for returning or renewing loans on time regardless of receipt of library notices. You should check your MyLoans account regularly to keep track of your loans.
You can forward your email from your University email address to a different address at via the ICT Student website. If you forward your email e.g. to Gmail/Yahoo, or you use a SPAM filter, please add the email address the Library Notice was sent from to your address book or as a legitimate sender of email messages. This will ensure you will receive all library notices.
If you are a staff member or student of the University of Sydney the email address currently on the Library system should be a University of Sydney email address. If this is not the case, please contact the ICT Helpdesk and they will update your Library record.
If you are not a staff member or student of the University of Sydney and you wish to change your email address on the Library system, please contact the Campus Card Centre and they will update your Library record.
Items missing from the shelves
Please ask library staff for help if you cannot find an item on the shelves. To report a missing item, fill in this Missing Item Form.
