Requesting items that are on loan

University of Sydney staff and students can request an item that is on loan to another borrower.
You will receive an email when it is ready to pick up, you will have 4 days to collect the item.

Request items via the library catalogue:

1. Find the item in the Catalogue
2. Click on the Request button located at the top or bottom of the screen
3. Enter your unikey and pin or your name and borrowers number
4. Choose a library to collect the item from. If you do not choose a library your request will not be successful.
5. Click on the circle button next to the item you want
6. Click on the REQUEST SELECTED ITEM button
7. If the request is successful you will receive the message: Your request for this item has been sent to the library
8. You can log into MyLoans to check if your requested book is available for pickup or to cancel a request

Problems requesting more than one volume of a title/series: There is currently a problem with requesting items that were published as a number of volumes, parts or sections. If your request is not successful, please ask Library staff to request the item for you.

Requesting items from another campus - Intracampus Loans

This service is available to students and staff of the University of Sydney only.

You may request an item be transferred from another campus if there is no copy available on your campus - refer to table below.

We will notify you by email when the item is ready to pick up.

For journal articles held on another campus: Postgraduate students and staff may request via the Document Delivery Service.

* Schaeffer Fine Arts Library is a Reference Library - no loans or recalls are permitted.

 

How to request items from another campus:

1. Find the item in the Catalogue
2. Click on the Request button located at the top or bottom of the screen

If another copy of the same item is available on your campus, excluding if the other copy is in 2 Hour collection or short loan, the request will not be accepted and you will receive the following message: Sorry, request not accepted Local copy is available.

 

NB.   Problems requesting more than one volume of a title/series: There is currently a problem with requesting items that were published as a number of volumes, parts or sections. If your request is not successful, please ask Library staff to request the item for you.

Recalls

Another borrower may request an item that is currently on loan to you. When this happens, you will receive a recall notice by email, notifying you that the item has been requested by another borrower. Check the due date on this notice, as it may have changed.

Recalled loans must be returned within 7 days

Overdue recalled items incur a $2 per day charge until returned.

Note: These emails are provided as a convenience and do not replace your responsibility to check your MyLoans record.

Items that cannot be requested

Items cannot be requested if:

• another copy of the same item, except if the same item is a 2 Hour collection or short term loan, is available on your campus
• they are a Short Loan, 2 Hour Collection, Rare Book, Reference or Not For Loan item
• your card is blocked, you have overdue loans or your fine total has reached $25.00
