Does the login page keep reloading?


Note: The advice on this page is not intended for people who are getting the page headed "Unsuccessful log-in attempt", which indicates issues with your login details. See the troubleshooting at the bottom of that page for relevant help.

If the "Login to Library eResources" page (image below) keeps reloading and you can't get past it, or you are prompted to login multiple times in a single session, check your browser settings. Login heading

  • Allowing third party cookies should prevent you being prompted to login multiple times in a single session.
  • Internet Explorer: changing your Tabbed Browsing settings will also reduce the number of sessions for which you are prompted to sign-in.
    (General > Tabs > Open links from other programs in: > The current tab or window)

Cookie settings

iPad users

  • Tap Settings > tap your browser name (eg, Safari), then tap Clear History, Clear Cookies and Data
  • Check that Accept Cookies is set to Always

Safari Mac OS users:

  • Safari menu > Preferences > Privacy. Check that Block cookie is set to Never
  • Close all your browser windows down, then re-open.

Firefox Mac OS users:

  • Firefox menu > Preferences > Privacy. Ensure that Accept third-party cookie is set to Always
  • Close all your browser windows down, then re-open.

Internet Explorer 9 & 10 users:

  • Tools menu > Options > Privacy. Ensure the Settings slider is no higher than Medium
  • Close all your browser windows down, then re-open.

Chrome PC users

  • Follow the steps at Chrome Help to Allow cookies by default, and do not check Block all third-party cookies without exception

Firefox PC users:

  • Tools menu > Options > Privacy. Change the History picklist to Use custom settings for history.
  • Ensure that Accept cookies from sites and Accept third-party cookie are enabled.
  • Close all your browser windows down, then re-open.

If changing your cookie settings doesn't help, and the login page keeps reloading, try another browser, or the following may help:

"Trust" our security certificate

Some individual browser installations take issue with our security certificate.

Safari Mac OS users:

  • Click the SSL icon ( padlock ) lock icon near the left end of the "address and search" field at the top of Safari. Click Show certificate . You can view the contents of the security certificate.
  • Click the triangle next to the word Trust
  • Enter your login details again and try logging in.

Internet Explorer 9 & 10 users:

  • Click the SSL icon ( padlock ) at the right-hand end of the "address and search" bar at the top of your browser.
  • Click View certificate > Install certificate, then accept the defaults until you get the Installation Successful message. ( Click Next and Finish, OK )
  • Enter your login details again and try logging in.
  • If neccessary, try: Tools menu > Options > Security. Click the Trusted Sites icon, then the Sites button
  • The address of the login screen (either https://ezproxy1.library.usyd.edu.au or https://ezproxy2.library.usyd.edu.au) will be in the Add this website to zone box. Click Add
  • Click Apply
  • Close all your browser windows down, then re-open.

Chrome PC users

  • Open Chrome's settings > Advanced settings > under HTTP/SSL click Manage certificates
