Digital collections and partnerships

 

These digital collections developed by, or associated with, initiatives of the University Library enable discovery and study of the rich resources of the University of Sydney – from rare manuscripts and scarce Australian literary and historical works through to art images and botanical and archaeological datasets.

These collections have been created through collaborations with University staff, often in partnership, and with the support of, external agencies and institutions. 

The Library is keen to continue to build partnerships with researchers and scholars to create new digital collections to enhance discovery, study and scholarship – please contact us through escholarship.info@sydney.edu.au   

These digital collections complement the vast electronic resources licensed by the Library for the use of University staff and students through the Library's homepage and catalogues.

• Archaeological fish-bone images

  

  The collection contains images of selected diagnostic anatomical elements from fish taxa commonly found on archaeological sites in the Sydney region, supplemented by taxa of the same family or genus from elsewhere where modern reference skeletons of Sydney taxa were not readily available.

• Australian Digital Collections

  

  The University of Sydney Library's collection of Australian Literary and Historical Texts. The collection has been growing since 1997 with funding from a number of national grants and institutional collaborations.

• The Australian Cooperative Digitisation Project

  

  A collection devoted to literary emergence in the 1840's. 

• Australian Federation Full Text Database

  

  A collection devoted to national debates and auxiliary writings of the 1890's, introduced by Helen Irving.   

• Australian Poetry Library

  

  The Australian Poetry Library (APL) aims to promote a greater appreciation and understanding of Australian poetry by providing access to a wide range of poetic texts as well as to critical and contextual material relating to them, including interviews, photographs and audio/visual recordings.

• Australian Poets. Brennan, Harford, Slessor

  

  A collection devoted to three major twentieth century poets, introduced by John Trantor.   

• Classic Texts in Australian and International Taxation Law

  

  A collection devoted to R.W. Parsons seminal work and other texts.   

• Dictionary of Sydney

  

  The Dictionary of Sydney is a ground breaking project to produce a new kind of history of Sydney: online, growing and changing, covering every aspect of human life in this place.

• Digital theses

  

  This is the digital archive for PhD, professional doctorates and Masters (Research) theses from the University of Sydney as part of the Australian Digital Theses Program.

• eBot Plant Sciences Collection

  

  eBot provides access to a rich research collection of plant sciences images contributed by staff and students of the University of Sydney

• eFlora

  

  An interactive, dichotomous key to all species of vascular plants in the Sydney Region

• Exhibitions online

  

  Online exhibitions that highlights some of the treasures which are to be found among the more than 170,000 volumes in the Rare Books & Special Collections Library.

• First Fleet and Early Settlement

  

  A collection devoted to manuscripts and published journals of the First Fleet.

• Joseph Henry Maiden Botanical Texts

  

  A collection devoted to pioneering botanical texts and images.   

• Journals of Inland Exploration

  

  A collection devoted to major encounters with the new geography.  

• New South Wales Archaeology Online: Grey Literature Archive

  

  a sustainable digital archive of information about the archaeology and heritage of important cultural places in New South Wales.

• Professor John Anderson Lectures, Notes and Other Writings

  

  A collection devoted to John Anderson, Challis Professor of Philosophy from 1927 until 1958. The site aims to provide a comprehensive resource for study and research into the life and works of John Anderson.

• Sydney College of the Arts Archive

  

  The SCA Archive is a unique collection of contemporary visual art that showcases the scholarly research of SCA staff, students and alumni.

• Sydney eScholarship Journals online

  

  Journals online was setup to facilitate the authoring, editing, publishing and archiving of a selection of the University of Sydney Journals, conferences and associations. This is done by utilising the Open Journal System, which is an open source journal management and publishing software developed, supported, and freely distributed by the Public Knowledge Project under the GNU General Public License.

• Sydney Research Online

  

  This is an “internal access only” repository of research material (articles; book chapters; conference papers) produced by University of Sydney Staff which has been reported for HERDC and ERA purposes. It represents a body of research outputs from 2002 to the present.

• Sydney eScholarship repository

  

  A University of Sydney Library initiative. The service provides a platform for research communities to safely store, and provide online access to documents and data. It archives a wide range of significant university publications, forming a core global resource for today's researchers and those of future generations.

• Sydney University Press

  

  Sydney University Press was re-established in 2003 as a scholarly digital and print publisher as an initiative of the University Library. Books can be ordered through Amazon, Google books or direct from the SUP website where books are printed and dispatched as required.
