iResearch contains a suite of short, fun learning tools to support students' acquisition of essential information literacy skills. Information literacy skills is critical in enabling individuals to become lifelong learners who will “…know how to learn because they know how knowledge is organised, how to find information and how to use information in such a way that others can learn from them. They are prepared for lifelong learning, because they can always find the information for any task or decision at hand.” *
This initiative is supported by a TIES (the University’s Teaching Improvement and Equipment Scheme) grant with matched funding from the Library.
The main goal of iResearch is to produce a series of high quality learning tools for information skills instruction. It also aims to establish a solid framework for the creation, development, storage and delivery of learning objects using best practices and international standards. The outcomes for the project are to:
- enrich and improve students’ learning experience by providing access to quality interactive learning tools to assist their development of information literacy skills
- provide multiple gateways to information literacy learning tools so that students can access and use them at point-of-need
- provide support and systematic approach for academic staff embedding generic skills learning outcomes into the curriculum
- provide a sustainable solution for storage and management of learning objects by the use of a repository system.
iResearch has been accepted into PRIMO: Peer-Reviewed Instructional Materials Online, a database showcasing exemplary online instruction in the areas of information literacy. PRIMO is part of the American Library Association’s ACRL (Association of College and Research Libraries) Instruction Section
