Scope of the Collection
The East Asian Collection, comprising material published in Chinese, Japanese and Korean vernacular scripts, is the third largest oriental collection in Australia - after the East Asian Collections of the National Library of Australia and the Australian National University. The Collection has grown to over 123,350 volumes. It has both local and national roles in supporting Australian research and teaching in Asian Studies.
Areas of particular strength include:
- Political Science
- Ancient Architecture
Works on Science consist mainly of dictionaries of science and technology and works of current topical interest. The Library does not attempt to collect modern scientific and technical works.
Works in Western Languages
Works in western languages on China, Japan and Korea are integrated in the Research Collection, Fisher Library.
