5.4 Reference styles

When writing your list of references or bibliography you are expected to format it in a particular way. This is known as a reference style.

Styles include APA, Chicago, Harvard, MLA, and Oxford.

Each department prefers that you format your references in a particular way, so ask your lecturer or tutor what style you should use.

The library’s guide to the different referencing and citation styles will assist you once you know which style to use. Also check our online tutorial How to reference.
