Queen's Birthday Honours 2014

Congratulations to MBI members who have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2014

Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Marie Bashir AC CVO Governor of New South Wales was awarded Dame in the General Division for extraordinary and pre-eminent achievement and merit in service to the administration, public life, and people of New South Wales, to medicine, particularly as an advocate for improved mental health outcomes for the young, marginalised and disadvantaged, to international relations, through the promotion of collaborative health programs, and as a leader in tertiary education.

Professor Tania Sorrell AM has been awarded the member in the general division, for significant service to medicine and the community as an infectious diseases researcher and adviser.

Professor Sorrell AM said that “Its an enormous honour and comes at a time when emerging infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance loom large on Australia's horizon. I'm very proud to accept this award, knowing that it reflects the contributions of the many people who enabled and helped me to have such a wonderful career. My thanks go to them for their part in making infectious diseases such a strength across our country and to the many bright young people I have had the pleasure to train"

Professor Warwick John Britton AO has been awarded the officer in the general division, for distinguished service to medical research as an academic and immunologist, to humanitarian and public health improvements for the people of Nepal, and to the community.
