Biographical details

Kate is an Addiction Medicine Specialist and Public Health Physician based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Her work combines clinical care of individuals with alcohol, drug and tobacco dependence; work promoting the health of communities; and research and teaching.

Research interests

Kate's research focuses on reducing the impact of alcohol and drug use on health. Her work includes both a public health and a clinical perspective. She has a special interest in early detection and intervention for alcohol problems, and on putting best evidence into day to day clinical practice.

Over the past 10 years she has had the opportunity to work in partnership in research with Aboriginal agencies and communities, in their efforts to address substance misuse. This has included urban and remote settings.

Teaching areas

Kate's teaching inlcudes coordination of the Graduate Diploma and Master of Indigenous Health (Substance use). She also teaches students in medicine and public health, and practising health professionals.

Kate was an editor of the book "Addiction Medicine" which was published internationally to guide doctors and nurses working in the field. In 2012 she was an editor of the "Handbook of Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Work" which was written for and with Aborigianl health professionals.
