Cardiac Research Laboratory

Previously known as The Muscle Research Unit (began in 1973), The Cardiac Research Laboratory undertakes translational research focusing on the human heart.

We aim to investigate the molecular basis of heart failure, in addition to the intrinsic mechanisms of cardiac regeneration. We uniquely draw on tissue from The Sydney Heart Bank (SHB), which comprises of over 20,000 cryopreserved human cardiac samples from our collaboration with St Vincent's Hospital (Sydney) and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Over the years, we have developed an extensive tissue database and research network with the common goal of pooling international expertise on the same set of human samples to ultimately understand the nature of heart failure.
