Representative dedrograms for enterovirus 71 genetic lineages
The following 'backbone' dendrograms show current EV71 genetic lineages based on nucleotide sequence data derived from the partial and complete VP1 gene and VP4 gene RT-PCR assays (for details on methods, see 'Diagnostics').
The representative EV71 strains used to construct the backbone dendrograms are listed in the Tables (see below). Nucleotide sequence data is included here in downloadable form to allow APNET members to reconstruct the dendrograms. This will be of use in the analysis of EV71 isolates identified by laboratories involved in APNET.
APNET members who are unable to perform the RT-PCR assays may send their isolates to Peter McMinn's or Jane Cardosa's laboratories (see 'Contact Us' for contact details) for nucleotide sequence and phylogenetic analysis. The completed nucleotide sequence data and phylogenetic tree including the newly identified strains will be returned confidentially to the contributing laboratory.
APNET laboratories that have derived sequence data and would like phylogenetic analysis of their EV71 strains should send their sequence data as an attachment to the following email address:
Any other relevant material (dendrograms, pictures, laboratory methods etc) for sharing between APNET members should also be sent as an attachment to the above email address for inclusion on the APNET website.
