Annual Scientific Meeting

The Bosch Institute conducts an Annual Scientific Meeting each year. This is a full day program and registration is required.

This meeting will present cutting edge work in major themes pioneered by Peter Orlebar Bishop (1917 -2012), Professor of Physiology at the University of Sydney (1955-1967), and at the Australian National University (1967 – 1983).

The scientific sessions will be in five themes, all pioneered by Bishop and his colleagues:

  • Thalamic processing of retinal input
  • Parallel processing of visual information
  • Physiological optics
  • Cortical processing of visual information
  • Neural basis of Stereopsis

3 Minute Thesis:
At this year's Annual Scientific Meeting, we will select from the submitted abstrats 8-10 PhD students to deliver oral presentations using the "3-minute thesis" format. Any field of research will be considered for this open session. Selected students will present to the audience one static PowerPoint slide (no animations, no sound) and a talk of a maximum of 3 minutes.
Abstract Submission:

The conference for 2008 was a vascular biology/physiology/ medicine theme titled "Heart, Vessels and Health".

The Keynote Speaker was Professor John Keaney from Boston, USA, a well known clinical researcher in the general area of atherosclerosis.

Other Speakers included: Professor David Celermajer, Professor Roland Stocker, Professor Cris dos Remedios, Associate Professor Tailoi Chan-ling, Dr Karen Cullen. In addition we also have 3 Young Researchers presenting mini talks - and Dr Lachlan McDowell, Dr Yutang Wang and Dr Sabine Wimmer-Kleikamp.

Another highlight is that the conference incorporated the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital "Grand Rounds" and was presented by Professor Keaney allowing a unique insight into clinical issues associated with diseases of the cardiovascular system.
