Harbour cruise to welcome new Young Investigators

Every year a Harbour Cruise is organised by the Bosch Young Investigators. This serves to welcome new members, is an opportunity for people from different disciplines to socialise, and is always a fun night!

2014 Harbour Cruise

This year our Bosch Young Investigators set sail on the beautiful Sydney Harbour dressed to the theme of "Tragedy" to welcome our new Honours, Masters and PhD students, as well as Postdocs, to The Bosch Institute.

Strutting down the catwalk to the Bee Gee's song 'Tragedy' saw an array of tragic figures including Grim Reapers, Amy Winehouses, Beauty School Dropouts and even failed experiments! Congratulations to the winners of the best dressed competition: Moumita Paul, Mamdoh Moawadh and Amanda Scopelliti, and to the winners of our new 'meet and greet' game, Rosie Cater and Courtney Wright (whom in true Courtney style also did an exceptional job at dressing up as the Titanic and it's infamous iceberg!)

Thank you to all who attended for making it such a fun night -- we had a phenomenal turnout this year, with the largest attendance to date! A special thank you to Frank Lovicu and all the members of the Bosch Young Investigators Committee for organising the event, which proved to be anything but a tragedy!!

2012 Harbour Cruise

Every year a Harbour Cruise is organised by the Bosch Young Investigators. This serves to welcome new members, is an opportunity for people from different disciplines to socialise, and is always a fun night!

The Bosch cruise 2012 was a huge success with more than 130 students attending dressed as their favourite movie character. The night was full of eye catching costumes and lively conversations. Cruising around Sydney harbour provided pleasurable scenic views to soak up the night with. It was an amazing cruise which allowed students to shed the stresses of life and dance the night away.

The finalists of the best dressed impromptu catwalk event strutted to the Lonely Island song “I’m on a boat” which seemed quiet fitting for the occasion. The finalists were dressed as: 1st The Mad Hatter (Mamdoh Moawath), 2nd Avatar (Jenna Reeves), 3rd Austin powers (Tom Owens) and 4th Darth Vader (Marcus Robinson). The Bosch cruise 2012 was a memorable socialevent and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

2011 Harbour Cruise

The Bosch Institute YI Welcome Cruise took place on April Fools Day in 2011 and proved to be a fantastic night for all! As the Vegabond boat cruised around the picturesque Sydney harbor, both the beauties and the geeks on board danced the night away. There was no shortage of funny, weird and even strange outfits as the Bosch Young Investigators got in touch with their inner geek! Dark rimmed glasses, suspenders, bow-ties and pants that just go too high all featured heavily on the night. But it was the beauties that amazed us all, from Moe with his new hairdo (one that actually included hair) to a very brave young man that came as “Sofia”.

The competition for best costume was close, with the Rubic’s cube coming second to none other than Sofia! Overall, it was a fabulous night with great music, tons of dancing and great company. A big thank you must go to Frank Lovicu and the members of the Bosch Young Investigator Committee that were involved in organizing this wonderful event.

2010 Harbour Cruise

On Friday 16th April 2010 the Bosch Young Investigators swapped the lab coats for fancy dress and departed on board a Vagabond party boat for a 4 hour cruise of the local harbour.

“Back to the 80’s” was the theme and there was no shortage of 80’s disco girls, bad mullets and the unforgettable 80’s fashions. Music from the era was abundant and the dance moves were nothing short of Footloose.

2010 Cruise

It was the shout outs during the fashion parade that would determine the “best dressed”. He was not the only man on the boat wearing lipstick, but he was the only “Guitar Hero”, also known as Sean Greenhalgh from the Discipline of Pathology, now in possession of a Myer gift card.

A fun night for all was the general consensus, and thanks must go to the Bosch YI committee, Frank Lovicu and event manager Francine Coelho Marques.

The next cruise will be probably around April 2011. Please contact Frank Lovicu for more details.
