Project: Neuropathology and clinicopathological correlations in dementia

There are a number of different types of dementia and in most instances the cause is unknown. Understanding the extent and degree of neurodegeneration in each of these dementia syndromes is a necessary component of understanding their pathogenesis. In many cases abnormal protein deposition also occurs, although its link with neurodegeneration is unclear. In the neuropathology laboratory of the Centre for Education and Research on Ageing, research is aimed at further characterising the pathology of dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders, and further elucidating correlations between regional pathology and clinical features of these diseases.
