EMIG: Emergency Medicine Interest Group
EMIG was created in 2008 by the Sydney Medical School students at Westmead Clinical School with the support of Emergency Physicians, in particular Dr. James Kwan and A/Prof. Naren Gunja. It is the first of its kind in Australia, and indeed outside of North America.
EMIG is by the students for the students and is open to any Sydney Medical School medical student interested in emergency medicine. EMIG's aim is to increase awareness of EM educational opportunities and improve access to emergency department teaching from experienced Emergency Physicians. EMIG is currently supported by Dr. Andrew Coggins and other Emergency Physicians at Westmead Emergency.
Activities organised by EMIG include:
- Suturing workshops
- Airway and resuscitation courses
- Disaster medicine simulation
- ECG interactive workshops
- 'Not so Grand Rounds' sessions
