Director's Autumn Message

Peter McCluskey

Despite being around since 1985, Save Sight Institute (SSI) is still a well-kept secret. Many of the people most likely to benefit from our research are not even aware we exist! It’s time for this to change.

SSI is an eye research institute, comprising Australia’s best and brightest ophthalmic researchers and clinicians. We have over 80 people on-staff who deliver quality care and innovative research in order to preserve or restore vision.

We run a busy eye clinic on-site, but most of our clinician researchers also see patients in their own clinics or in the public hospital system.

You may not know it, but your own eye doctor could be working with us to find and test innovative new ways of treating eye disease.

We have two world-class research laboratories where 14 research groups investigate new ways to save or restore sight. Our research covers all major areas of eye disease, including macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract, paediatrics, genetic conditions, eye cancer, uveitis, corneal disease and many more.

Many patients ask us what is happening and how they can help.

Having an engaged and involved patient community is very important to those of us working in the field and the lab. I encourage you to get involved if you can.

If you are able to make a financial gift, we are most grateful. If you would like to help with fundraising, this is also something we value very much.
