Director's Spring Message

Peter McCluskey

It’s a very exciting time to be involved in medical research.

Advances in clinical and laboratory knowledge, combined with increasingly available and affordable technology, present opportunities previously thought unattainable for current generations of eye patients.

Vision impairment and blindness significantly impacts the Australian economy, communities, families, and most importantly, those who live with it everyday. We care about all these people and want to help.

Australia’s population is ageing and increasing, some commentators predicting a ‘tsunami’ of eye diseases in the future. This is expected to weigh heavily on the public health system, with flow-on consequences for sectors such as disability and employment services.

Save Sight Institute has an important role to play in addressing these problems. Closely affiliated with The University of Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital, we have access to the best and brightest minds in Australia and beyond.

We’re on track to make a difference in the lives of many people, and encourage our patients to get involved. With your help we can do much more.
