Ms Gillian Guthrie

Journalist and writer, Gillian Guthrie, has worked extensively in television news and current affairs over the past thirty years. She was a driving force behind SBS World News in its early years and then moved to the ABC to produce The Investigators and then Quantum. She later became executive producer of Insight at SBS TV, overseeng various major live broadcasts including Corroboree 2000 and the annual Walkley Awards. She helped to establish the current affairs program Asia Pacific Focus for the ABC's Australia Network, working as a reporter and producer.

Gillian has also made a number of independent documentaries with her partner, Rob Simms, and assisted in the filming and design of educational health videos and interactive CDROMs for developing countries. Among them was a burns video featuring the work of burns and reconstructive surgeon Assoc. Prof. Peter Haertsch. Two of the documentaries were about the work of Interplast Australia, a medical aid group providing vital reconstructive surgery for disadvantaged patients in developing countries. She was a member of the Interplast Development Committee until it moved to Melbourne.

Gillian is currently writing her first non-fiction book.
