Molecular Cardiology - the study of genetic heart disorders

Primary supervisor: Christopher Semsarian

The main research focus of the Molecular Cardiology Programme at the Centenary Institute is the study of genetic heart disorders.  Molecular Cardiology is the integration of basic science research and clinical cardiology, with the major goal to reduce human disease.  A number of projects are offered including studies in:

  • genetic causes of sudden cardiac death in the young
  • exome sequencing to identify new cardiac disease genes
  • signalling mechanisms in heart failure
  • transgenic mouse models of human cardiac disease
  • novel gene discoveries in valvular heart disease
