Our international relationships and first class Medical Program make Sydney Medical School an ideal institution for people wanting to study Medicine in Australia.

Sydney Medical Program (MBBS)

The Sydney Medical Program is a graduate entry Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, equivalent to an MD), which, once followed with an internship, qualifies you to apply for registration as a doctor in Australia and numerous other countries, including Canada, the USA, South Africa and the European Union.

Undergraduate entry

Sydney Medical School study programs are predominantly offered at postgraduate level only.

There is one undergraduate pathway to studying Medicine in Sydney Medical Program – the Combined Medicine option – which enables you to study an undergraduate degree and then proceed directly into Medicine.

Sydney Medical School also offers honours opportunities for undergraduates from the faculties of Arts (Bachelor of Liberal Studies students only), Science and Health Science.

Medical elective placements for students from other institutions

Sydney Medical School welcomes applications from international medical students wishing to undertake elective placements at one of its teaching hospitals in the clinical schools.

The usual duration of these placements is up to 8 weeks and may be clinical or research-based. Longer placements may be possible upon request.

Only students in the final stages of study will be considered. The Sydney Medical Program does not accept study abroad or exchange students with exception of those nominated within our University of Sydney Medical Elective Exchange Program.

More information on elective placements

Medical students seeking to undertake elective placements are encouraged to apply to the clinical schools at least 9 months in advance.
