Rural origin applicants

Facilitated entry is available for applicants who identify as being of rural origin. Eligible applicants are considered on a case by case basis.
Successful rural applicants will be offered a CSP or MRBS or BMP according to their position in the ranked list of applicants and their preferences (applicants are required to number their preferences from the options detailed in the Quotas section).
Eligibility
A rural origin student is defined as one who has resided in an Australian Standard Geographical Classification - Remoteness Area (ASGC-RA 2 to 5) for at least 5 years (consecutive or cumulative) from commencement of primary school, that is commencement of school at about the age of five years.

An offer of facilitated entry may be conditional on the applicant providing one of the following forms of proof of rurality:
- Letter of support from medical practitioners, dentists, lawyers, school principals (no family members). The letter should include:
-The rural home address of the applicant or the town/suburb where the applicant resided; the period of time the applicant resided; and
-The current (or previous if applicable) position and contact details of the person who issues the letter of support. - School records that include the rural home address of the applicant or the town/suburb where the applicant resided.
- A statutory declaration that must include:
- a statement explaining why neither a letter of support nor school records are available; and
- Contact details of two personal references, including at least a medical practitioner, dentist, lawyer, or school principal.
Please note that documents supplied in support of rural status may be verified by Sydney Medical School.
The Government and Medical School give special consideration to those from a rural background. For 2012 entry the GAMSAT cut off for rural applicants was 60 with at least 50 in each section. Those who met the GAMSAT requirement and had a GPA of at least 5.0 were invited to interview in 2011 for 2012 entry.
The minimum requirments for GAMSAT and GPA will be determined once the applications have been received.

All domestic applications for Sydney Medical Program must be submitted directly to the University of Sydney.

Applicants MUST submit supporting document(s) at the time of application. Otherwise applications will be processed as standard applications and not via the Rural Facilitated Entry scheme.
Special Arrangement
- Up to 10 places will be offered to Bachelor of Clinical Sciences (BClinSc) graduates from Southern Cross University who meet the facilitated entry requirements
