Fees and scholarships for international students
Tuition fees
Applicants who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents, or are not citizens of New Zealand, will be considered as international students, and are accepted into the University only on a full-fee basis. The fee for 2013 is AUD$62,880
per year + four years health cover.
The tuition fees provided are indicative based on a full-time semester or equivalent. The exact tuition fee will depend on the specific units of study in which you enrol. The University's tuition fees are reviewed annually and so may vary during the period of study.
You will also need to allow for living costs. Please read more information about living costs in Sydney on the university's site for further information.
International students who interrupt their studies or who do not make satisfactory progress and then join a later cohort of students will pay the fees applicable to that cohort.
Health cover
Overseas Student Health Cover rates for 2013 are as follows:
- Single: A$2,016
- Dual Family: A$5,060
- Multi Family: A$6,578

Applicants are advised NOT to purchase the following items in advance.
- Hospital Coat: $55 - $85
- Stethoscope: $35 - $360
- Tendon Hammer: $20
- Torch: $6 - $8
- Textbooks: $500+*
- First Aid Course: $135 - $150
- Immunisation/s: Variable
* Textbooks are available on-line through the University of Sydney Medical Library and can be accessed either on the computer in each PBL room or on your own computer. You will be provided with a login name and password upon your enrolment in the Medical Program.
Scholarships
Most Sydney Medical School scholarships for medical students are open to all medical students, including international students.
In addition, Sydney Medical School also offers several scholarships specifically for international medical students.
