Interview of Combined Medicine applicants

The Dean of Sydney Medical School will select applicants for interview after consideration of ATAR rank.

Interviews will be conducted in early January 2012 for NSW, interstate and international applicants. Please visit the important dates for the interview schedule and closing dates for the change of preferences.

Interviews will be held at the Camperdown Campus of the University. Staff will be in attendance to act as guides. For interstate and international applicants, interviews may alternatively be conducted via Skype.

Applicants selected for interview will be informed of the details of the interview time and location (where relevant) as well as other information about the interview. Applicants must attend on the date and time specified. Any travel required to attend an interview is at the applicant's own expense.

At interview, all applicants must present a valid passport or current Australian driver's licence along with proof of residency for identification purposes.

No references, resumes, portfolios or similar documents are to be submitted with applications or brought to the interview.

The interview panel

Each interview panel will consist of members recruited from the academic and clinical staff of Sydney Medical School or from the academic staff of the Faculty of Science/Arts/Music and Sydney Business School.

The interview process and rating

The interview is a semi-structured and objective process, which will last approximately 30 minutes, including a short writing task. After the interview, the panel will achieve consensus on a rating for each attribute and an overall rating.

If the interview panel is unable to reach consensus, the applicant may be recalled for brief clarification of the issues in contention.

Appeals

An applicant who believes their performance at interview has been compromised by serious illness or misadventure may appeal in writing (with supporting documentation) within 48 hours of the interview. An Admissions Appeals Committee established by the Medical School for this purpose shall determine if any further action is required and its decision shall be final.
