There are approximately 200 students currently studying at Nepean Hospital. Students in Stages 1 & 2 attend hospital one day per week, whilst Stage 3 students attend five days per week and receive all of their learning activities on the hospital campus.
The new 17 million dollar clinical school currently being built by the University of Sydney will cater for about 300 students and 50 staff, and will allow students to attend bulk billed specialist clinics. With the growing interest in research and teaching from the hospital, the school will only continue to thrive. The Nepean Medical Students Society has an ever growing responsibility to the increasing number of Nepean medical students and the hospital as a whole.
The Nepean Medical Student Society aims to:
- Provide a calendar of social activities for its members and guests
- Educate its members through creative and entertaining events
- Provide student representation to decision making bodies
- Provide a relaxing space for students to retire to between clinical studies
The NMSS committee has a fantastic range of activities and services proposed for its members in 2011.
Common Room
The Nepean Student Common Room, located on level 3 West block is a space provided to the students for relaxation, to eat lunch and interact with other students, and to spend time quietly reading or in reflection of the days events. It’s well equipped with foosball table, pool table, and television.
Debating
Motivated by consultant interest this year we hope to organise of number of debating sessions. Controversial medical topics (for which there are many) will be picked apart in an attempt to stimulate thinking and promote communication across the clinical school.
Clinical skills sessions
To gain proficiency with procedural skills ongoing practice is required. We hope to run a variety of events throughout the year in order to enable students to hone essential clinical skills such as plastering, venepuncture and cannulation.

For all students who use our common room we supply tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk to assist students in relaxing during their clinical school experience.
