Honorary Doctorate
Emeritus Professor Jim Lawrence AO has been honoured by the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) with an Honorary Doctorate. At a ceremony on 9 August 2005, presided over by TanSri Razali Ismail, Pro-Chancellor of USM, Professor Lawrence was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Medical Science for his contribution towards fostering close ties between the Universiti Sains Malaysia and the University of Sydney.

Since 1994 this relationship has resulted in the exchange of over 70 lecturers and medical experts for the purposes of education, training and research.

Research Funding
Associate Professor Janet Keast, NHMRC Research Fellow at the Pain Management Research Institute, has been awarded NIH research funding totalling over US $180,000 to investigate the effects of estrogens on bladder pain.

Excellence in Supervision
Dr Jennifer Byrne, Research Fellow in the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, has been awarded the 2005 College of Health Sciences Award for Excellence in Higher Degree Supervision.
