Summer Research Scholarship scheme awarded
14 August 2007
On Tuesday 7 August Professor David Handelsman (Director, ANZAC Research Institute and Professor of Reproductive Endocrinology & Andrology, Faculty of Medicine) and Ms Joanne Elliot (Executive Research Office, Faculty of Medicine) were among 6 other teams of University of Sydney staff who met at the Powerhouse Museum to receive a Carrick Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. These awards are presented in recognition of a continuous commitment by university staff who have shown outstanding innovation and leadership.
The citation was for "creating a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to experience genuine biomedical research in a state-of-the-art research environment with world class researchers" and was awarded for their development of the Faculty of Medicine’s Summer Research Scholarship scheme which commenced in 2005.
Applications have just opened for the Summer Research Scholarship scheme for 2007/08 and more information about them, as well as details on how to apply, can be found on the Summer Research Scholarships website.
The Australian Government’s Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education was established in 2004 to provide a national focus for the enhancement of learning and teaching in Australia. This is the second year of these awards which recognise academics, general staff, sessional staff and institutional associates who have shown their dedication and enthusiasm for student learning. The award includes $10,000 in prize money.
