Evidence into Action prize

3 July 2007
Faculty of Medicine Associate Professor Jill Thistlethwaite and Rebecca Stewart and Rebecca Evans, both of James Cook University, were awarded the Evidence into Action prize at the recent General Practice and Primary Health Care Research Conference held in Sydney.

The National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) awards the $1000 prize for the paper or poster that best demonstrates improving health care by closing an identified gap between the available evidence and clinical practice within Australian health care settings.

The study by Thistlethwaite, Stewart and Evans - "Breast examination and pelvic examination of asymptomatic women: evidence and clinical practice" - reviewed the evidence and compared this with current clinical practice for breast and pelvic examinations of asymptomatic women.
