Attracting the world's best: new support for international students
The University of Sydney Medical Program (USydMP) has re-vamped its scholarships for international students, in a bid to attract the best candidates from around the world.
For the first time, up to four International Merit Scholarships will be offered to suitable candidates for the 2009 USydMP. The scholarships will pay $10,000 per year for the duration of the four year course. At least one International Merit Scholarship will be awarded to successful candidates in each of four regions:
- Asia-Pacific
- Africa-Middle East
- Americas
- Europe
"This scholarship demonstrates our commitment to creating an international environment in which to learn", says Louise Freckelton, Manager of International Relations with the Faculties of Health International Office.
"We are finding that our students are becoming more and more interested in international health issues and international students can help to bring these perspectives right into the classroom. International students bring different ways of viewing the world; they bring knowledge of different health care systems and sometimes different experience of disease and health issues. In the collaborative study environment that the USydMP provides these different perspectives add real depth to the program."
