Around the world in one evening……Postcards from Everywhere

Presenters and staff at the event

globalHOME, with support from MedSoc and the Faculties of Health International Office, launched Postcards from Wherever on Wednesday 5th March 2008. The event, opened by Professor John Hearn, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) and attended by over 200 people, featured inspiring snippets from students and staff from Medicine and International Public Health as they shared their recent global health experiences. The evening took everyone on a journey from Vietnam to India through Uganda, back to outback Australia before heading to Iran and Papua New Guinea and finishing again in Africa.

“The event was an opportunity to promote the great opportunities that exist out there, not just as students but also as future leaders in the medical and health community”, said globalHOME event coordinator Fred Hersch.

“Each of the speakers was asked to choose three pictures that captured some aspect of their global health experience and to recount through these something about the health challenges as well as a personal story about the experience. The format was a great way to both entertain and inspire as well as also promote awareness about the global health issues and the challenges faced by so many on a daily basis.”

The event was the first in what will be a regular gathering of students and staff to share valuable experiences and knowledge from around the globe.
