Professor Stephen Leeder awarded 2009 Public Health Association of Australia Sidney Sax Medal

Professor Stephen Leeder has been awarded the Public Health Association of Australia Sidney Sax Medal for 2009. Steve joins a small and very distinguished group of people who have made a significant contribution to improving the health of the population. PHAA's Sidney Sax Medal is a prestigious award. The Association describes it thus:
"The PHAA bestows this competitive award on a person who has provided a notable contribution to the protection and promotion of public health, solving public health problems, advancing community awareness of public health measures and advancing the ideals and practice of equity in the provision of health care."
Professor Leeder was a former Dean of Medicine and has been a lifelong advocate for improving the health of our population. He has passionately promoted better education of doctors and public health professionals, the importance of research in promoting good health policy, improving health care for those who need it most, including Indigenous people and his ongoing engagement in intellectual debate.
