Dean’s Fellowship in Radiology

Applications are currently being sought for a new combined PhD/RANZCR program being launched in 2013. Developed by The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and The University of Sydney, the program is designed to encourage and support trainees who have a strong interest in both clinical research and practice. This is an exciting opportunity for the right applicant who will be known as a “Dean’s Fellow” and will benefit from both the skills and expertise of leading clinicians, and the knowledge and experience of career academics who will support the applicant’s academic development.

Commencing in 2013, the successful applicant will spend 3 years working towards a PhD in the Discipline of Radiology at The University of Sydney. Research topics will be determined jointly by the candidate, supervisor, Chief Censor in Radiodiagnosis and the Radiology Research Committee.

Candidates will ideally be in their 4th year of training as the Radiology Education Board of RANZCR has agreed to recognise the following as being the equivalent to completing Project 2:

  • Application for a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) scholarship
  • Report of the first year of PhD research and/or
  • Peer-reviewed publication during the PhD.

The successful candidate will be provided with a generous scholarship for the first year of the program with funding for completion of the program anticipated to be secured through a NHMRC scholarship. It is anticipated that the candidate will be engaged in up to 20 hours per week employment in a suitable clinical appointment.
The position will foster the development of advanced research skills and provide involvement in translational projects. An outstanding candidate is sought with a high level of academic achievement, experience and/or interest in teaching and research.
