Farewell to Sam Miles!

sam-miles-farewell

It is with sadness and well wishes that we bid farewell to one of our treasures, Samantha Miles. Sam has been with the Sydney Medical School Northern, on and off for 12.5 years and has decided to migrate north with her family for a “sea change/tree change”!

Her roles have varied from events organising, student coordination, managing and supporting staff, and instigation of changes to curriculum. Sam’s enthusiasm and laughter will be missed by of those of in the School and also around the RNSH campus.

All the best Sam!

Farewell to Paul Heinrich!

In 1997 a tall enigmatic dramatist wearing ridiculously red glasses wandered in to the Northern Clinical School and started asking silly questions. He stayed for 14 years. Gradually we came to realise that the silly questions were at the core of what it takes to be a good doctor. Paul has challenged the focus of medical teaching at the University of Sydney, at associated hospitals and clinical schools, and in a majority of specialist colleges in the country. The red glasses remain unchanged. Medicine will never be quite the same.

We wish you all the best Paul!

Student Grand Rounds

As the year draws to a close so does the student lives of our final year students. This week is their last week of their Preinternship, after which we will say a fond farewell and wish them all the best as they take the next step in their medical careers.

Last Tuesday’s Grand Rounds was taken over by these students, who entertained the crowd with a burger ‘picklectomy’ and crowned an impressive Dr Anthony Gill ‘MasterDoc’ in a ‘taste the pathology challenge’.

Good luck Year 4, we thank you for the time you have shared with us here at Northern and look forward to seeing you come back as tutors in the future!

Prize Night 2010 - Professor Bruce Robinson and Aylin Seven

As you may know each year Northern Clinical School holds a prize night for excellence in education. This evening is to celebrate the achievements and contributions of staff and students, and we would love to see all our students, tutors and supervisors there.

The prize night for 2011 will be held on Tuesday 20th March 2012 in the RNSH Kolling building auditorium from 5:30-6:30pm followed by refreshments, so please save this date in your diary.

A more formal invitation will be issued closer to the date, as well as an announcement of the 2011 staff and student prize winners.
