Faculty Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching
A/Prof Chris Ward has long been an outstanding contributor to the Northern Clinical School program, and this has now been recognised with a Faculty Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching! This is a prestigious award within the University and thoroughly deserved.
I would like to highlight a small section of the application to showcase Chris’ contribution as follows “Students respect Chris as a thoughtful and gifted teacher who provides a consistently high level of teaching, supervision and support. His approach to education is student centred and inclusive. He endeavours to involve learners in the real life of both clinical and laboratory medicine and succeeds admirably in doing so. As someone who combines excellence in clinical medicine, research and teaching he is an admirable role model”.
New Translational Cancer Research Unit
As part of the new $30 million Translational Cancer Research Program of the Cancer Institute NSW, a consortium of cancer researchers based at Kolling Institute/RNSH has been awarded funding to establish a Translational Cancer Research Unit. The new Unit, which is also supported by the University of Sydney, will encourage laboratory and clinical researchers to work closely together to bring new cancer investigations and treatments into routine practice quickly. A major goal will be to expand patient outcome data collection and to further enhance tumour banking. The inaugural director is Professor Stephen Clarke and other lead investigators are Rob Baxter, Fran Boyle, Anthony Gill, Deborah Marsh and Bruce Robinson
