Frequently Asked Questions
- Can earlier editions of the textbook be used?
It is recommended that the latest edition of a textbook is used as they take so long to come out and are usually about 3 years out of date when published.
However much of the core work in Pathology has not changed in the last few years. If you decide to use an earlier edition you will need to watch carefully for discrepancies between what is in the book and what may be taught or referred to in the course and may therefore require you to do some research to determine how to resolve these. - How do I get my Museum access card?
Security Services will be provided at the beginning of semester with a list of enrolled students. They will then update the student ID cards to include access to the Museum. Any problems with access should be directed to - Can the Museum be accessed on the weekends?
Students are unable to access the museum on weekends; the access given to students is to the museum only, not the building (which you would need on the weekend). Access to the Museum is from 8 am - 5 pm Monday - Friday. - Is it possible to change allocated museum sessions?
The museum sessions are self-directed sessions and students are able to use the museum outside the timetabled sessions. Unfortunately the museum has limited space and with high student numbers it can prove difficult to swap sessions. It is recommended that students avoid using the museum during the scheduled tutorial times i.e. Tuesday 1-5 pm and Friday 1-5 pm. - Why did I not get my first choice for the research project as I really wanted to do this project?
Research project allocations are made on a 'first come, first served' basis. Unfortunately while we would like to give every student their first choice it is not always possible. - I have a clash on Wednesday afternoon between another subject and the Research Project, is the practical compulsory and will I have to change subjects?
It depends on what research project you choose to do. There are two possible activities to choose from:
1. A lab-based project, of which four must be attended on Wednesday afternoons at the time in question. The rest of the time in the semester is self-directed.
2. An essay-based research project (pathogenesis project), for which two tutorials should be attended, but the rest of the time in the semester is self-directed. These tutorial times can often be negotiated with the tutor concerned. - Is it possible to change allocated microscope sessions?
Due to the numbers of students undertaking this Unit and the limited size of the facility (seating for 70 students only) it is difficult to change allocations. Students are able to swap with each other but need to advise the Course Convenor or his nominee of any changes. - Why is the lecture held at 8 am and not 9 am?
The decision to hold the lecture at 8 am rather than 9 am was made due to large numbers of students having clashes with other lectures held at 9 am, and also due to the limited suitable venues available at 9 am. - I have a clash with the CPAT3201 lectures, will they be recorded and/or available on the Web?
The lecture notes and recorded lectures will be available on the LMS during the semester. - I am a 2nd year student, can I enrol in CPAT3201 and CPAT3202 in 2nd year?
Students can enrol in CPAT3201 and CPAT3202 provided that the prerequisite requirements for these units have been met.
